Abhishek Bachchan is back in a very different avatar with his upcoming film Kaalidhar Laapata, and the trailer already has people talking. Set to stream on ZEE5 from July 4, this one looks like a warm, emotional ride that blends humor, heartbreak, and a whole lot of heart.
What’s Kaalidhar Laapata all about?
Abhishek plays Kaalidhar, a middle-aged man quietly carrying the weight of memory loss, old wounds, and family betrayal. When he overhears that his siblings plan to abandon him at the chaotic Maha Kumbh Mela, he decides to take control of his fate and disappear—on his own terms.
That’s when fate throws Ballu into his path—an 8-year-old street-smart kid, full of life and wise beyond his years. Played by Daivik Baghela, Ballu brings a jolt of energy and unexpected companionship into Kaalidhar’s life. What starts off as a random meeting slowly grows into something deeply moving. Together, they set out to tick off Kaalidhar’s bucket list, with a few laughs and life lessons along the way.
This one’s all about second chances
Sharing the trailer, Abhishek wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Kabhi kabhi life mein second chances lene padte hai, and that’s when the most unexpected experiences and bonds are born.”
The film leans into that idea in the most beautiful way. It’s a story about choosing hope, finding joy in unlikely places, and realizing that even when life feels like it’s falling apart, connection can put the pieces back together.
Behind the camera
Kaalidhar Laapata is directed by Madhumita, who wanted to explore themes like abandonment, dignity, and emotional healing. She describes the film as a reflection on what it means to be truly seen and accepted. And if the trailer is anything to go by, she’s delivered something genuinely special.
She also called the bond between Abhishek and Daivik “tender and unfiltered,” and it really shows. There’s something honest and raw in their performances that lingers even after the trailer ends.
