Abir Gulaal Banned in India After Pahalgam Terror Attack

Abir Gulaal is a new Hindi movie starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan and Indian actress Vaani Kapoor. It was planned to release on May 9, but after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where 26 people were killed, people in India became very upset. Many are now calling for a boycott of the film because it features a Pakistani actor.
After the attack, there was a lot of anger on social media. People felt it was wrong to work with artists from Pakistan when such a tragedy had just happened. As a result, the film’s songs were quietly removed from YouTube India, and a new song that was supposed to be released never came out. The film is now banned from releasing in India.
Groups like the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have spoken out strongly against the movie. FWICE repeated its rule that no Pakistani artists should be allowed to work in Indian films, and said anyone who does so could face punishment. They had made a similar rule back in 2019 after another terror attack.
Both Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor shared messages online saying they were sad about the attack and sent prayers to the victims’ families. However, this has not stopped the public anger. The film, shot in London and made by Indian producers, now faces an uncertain future and may never be shown in India.
