Phule Hits Theaters April 25: The Story of Jyotirao & Savitribai

The movie Phule is about the lives of Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule, who were important social reformers in 19th-century India. They fought against caste discrimination and worked hard for women’s rights, especially in education. Jyotirao Phule is played by Pratik Gandhi, and his wife Savitribai is played by Patralekhaa. The film shows their struggles and achievements as they fought for a better society. It is set to release on April 25th.

The movie shows how these two reformers didn’t use weapons to fight but used education to change people’s minds. They worked to make sure that everyone, especially lower castes and women, could get an education. Rajkummar Rao, who is married to Patralekhaa, has been supporting the film and praising the performances of the cast. He hopes that the film reaches many people and educates them about the Phules’ revolutionary work.

Pratik Gandhi talks in interviews about how the team tried to make their characters more human and not just focus on their famous achievements. He explains that both Jyotirao and Savitribai were strong-willed people, and without this headstrong attitude, they wouldn’t have been able to challenge such deep-rooted social norms. The movie highlights how they faced many challenges but never gave up on their mission to bring about change.

The film is not just a typical freedom struggle story with battles and wars. Instead, it focuses on the Phules’ activism through education. It shows how Jyotirao, coming from a lower-caste family, managed to fight against discrimination and made sure his wife, Savitribai, could become the first female teacher in India. The film was originally set to release on April 11th, Jyotirao’s birthday, but was postponed due to some controversies about how a community was shown in the film. It is now releasing on April 25th.
